If you are like me, you have enjoyed the support and wealth of information offered to you by ECFE classes and conferences. You also probably know that state budget cuts have drastically reduced ECFE class offerings and have forced the program to increase sliding scale fees to participants.
What you may not realize is that other programs that Early Childhood Family Services supports, such as the School Readiness program, and the family literacy program “Family School” also have been hit hard by diminished state aid. In short, all of these programs are in dire need of support if they are to continue.
I believe the dissolve of such significant community programs like ECFE is unacceptable.
That’s why I, and a number of devoted community members, formed the Foundation for Early Childhood Family Services, ISD 196. Our mission is to make sure that ECFE, School Readiness, and all the ECFS programs remain vital so that they can continue to improve the quality of life in our community. Last year, the Foundation raised both money and awareness in support of ECFS. Our goal this year is to run a larger, more strategic fundraising campaign. The dollar figure we hope to raise: $200,000.
And here’s where you come in.
If you believe ECFE has helped your family, if your child has enjoyed the support of School Readiness classes, or if you simply recognize the powerful and positive impact early childhood education has on your community, I urge you to volunteer to our Foundation Campaign Committee. As a Campaign Committee member, you will help execute the largest ECFS fundraising campaign to date and enjoy the full support of the Foundation. We need organized thinkers for donor and event management, strategic planners for our marketing campaign, and devoted community members who believe, as I do, that these early childhood programs must go on.
Please consider volunteering your time to this worthy cause. Campaign committee meetings will be informal and often hosted in member homes to accommodate your family’s schedule and childcare needs. You will have the guidance and financial backing of the Foundation and its Board. Finally, you will make a significant difference in the vitality of ECFS and the well-being of your district.
If you are interested in becoming a Campaign Committee volunteer, or would like further information, please contact me directly at 763.542.9634, e-mail me or ask your ECFE parent educator to forward your name and number on to me.
I look forward to speaking with you and thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Kelly O’Rourke Johns
