Helps families find appropriate services for their children.
These services may include information about special education assessment, community preschools and services, and readiness for kindergarten.
Bridge to School Preschool
Offered during the school year at a number of elementary schools and community sites in the district.
Children are eligible to attend this program during the year before kindergarten.
Transportation and tuition assistance is offered to a number of families attending this program.
Families pay tuition for the program based on their income.
Children with the greatest need receive priority to attend.
Approximately 140 children attend this preschool program. Of those children, 40 are also receiving Early Childhood Special Education services, but receive a mainstreamed experience through Bridge to School.
Summer Bridge to School
Offered for 3 weeks each summer for children who will be going to kindergarten in the fall, but need extra support in order to have a smooth transition to kindergarten.
Approximately 250 children attend the summer program that is held in their home elementary school and taught by kindergarten teachers.
About 1/5 of those children are children with special needs.
